Glossary terms about Intensity

Intensity
The number of X-ray counts recorded at any energy within an energy dispersive spectrum. The intensity may be given as counts or count rate in cps.

Background information - What is energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy?
The X-rays are detected by an Energy Dispersive detector which displays the signal as a spectrum, or histogram, of intensity (number of X-rays or X-ray count rate) versus X-ray energy.
Bremsstrahlung X-ray generation

Characteristic X-rays
The third component reflects the relative intensity of the line within each shell, e.
EDS spectral resolution

Qualitative EDS X-ray microanalysis using SEM and TEM
The electron beam current (probe current or spot size) will control the X-ray count rate or intensity of the generated X-rays.
Quantitative EDS X-ray microanalysis using SEM
The electron beam current (probe current or spot size) will control the X-ray count rate or intensity of the generated X-rays.
X-ray detection by EDS
The number of X-rays with the relevant energy is assigned to each channel, and the result displayed as a histogram of intensity (number of X-ray counts) versus Energy.
X-ray intensity
The height of the Characteristic X-ray peaks in an ED spectrum, or the X-ray intensity, may be given in X-ray counts or count rate (counts per second or cps).
